scream.
Straight away we find out that there could be some sort or murder/torture happening through the movie. The reason we think this is because it shows a venerable girl home alone with a creepy person calling her and accidentally saying that he is “watching her” this intrigues the audience and makes them want to know what happens to the girl.
The suspense is built straight away in the first two minutes of scream. It is builded up by having dramatic and creepy music played in the background to make tension and the audience even more scared.
The first two minutes shows the genre Horror very well because it uses a girl home alone as the victim-watching a scary movie, and having an anonymous person keep calling her, asking her personal questions as the antagonist. He has a deep scary voice which makes it come across worse to the audience and can make her seem more vulnerable as she has a high pitch voice.
The first two minutes makes it a good opening because it uses sly ways to inform the audience that something bad will happen, one of the sly ways is this. The teenage girl begins to make herself some popcorn. In a way this is building tension in the audience because you know that at some point it’ll pop when it’s ready. This links to the girl being frightened by the antagonist and that he will soon ‘pop’ out and get her.
The target audience for scream is shown within the first two minutes of scream because it starts off with a teenager meaning that it wants to relate into their lives when they are home alone. The conventions link it to teenagers because they can be seen as quite vulnerable and as she is home alone and talking to a Stanger on a phone (the antagonist) this is what it shows.
The pace of editing starts off quite slow as nothing is really happening and they are just on the phone call; this enables the audience to build tension and become more frightened. When the antagonist begins to appear the pace of shots become faster and making it seem more jumpy towards the audience and feel as if they have to move quickly to get away from the antagonist.
Mise- en-scene is shown by what the girl is wearing (jumper e.g comfy clothes) which is what a teenage girl would be wearing if she was having a night in alone. this enables the audience to believe what is happening in the story a lot more and able's them to link into her story as it has been set in real life situations.
I think that it was a
good opening because it used a lot of ways to grab the audience’s attention and
make them want to find out more. They also used a few jokes to make audience
find it scary but also entertained whilst they were watching it.
