Conventions of Romance.

The film almost always starts of with a girl who is either dating a boy who is not right for her when a new boy starts at a school if the target audience is aiming for the age of teenagers or if it is aiming for a wider age group it would start of with a middle aged woman who is finding it hard to find a man who is right for her.

If the target audience is a wide range then it will have a middle age woman not knowing what to do with her life and wanting to settle down and have children but not sure it will ever happen for her as she wont be able to find the right man.

Family is always involved in a romance film. There will be the stereotyped mother who is very interfering and wanting her daughter/son to have the best life but ends up just being annoying and making matters even worse even though intentions are good. The dad will be normally laid back or not wanting his daughter to move on at all. There will either be a perfect sister or brother who is seen as amazing in the parents eyes.

There will always be a break up of some sort but the couple will always end up happily ever after.

A best friends who the main character relies on to talk about there problems.

Mise-en-scene is used by the female usually looking quite innocent or startingoff as looking quite bad and ending up sweet and innocent. The male tends to be good looking to attractakll the girls however he will always end up picking the girl everyone didnt think he would.

An affair is sometimes shown whether it was meant to happen of was a mistake and no one was meant to find out; this creates tensionin the film and draws the audience into finding out what will happen. However it tends to always endup the same way.
